Volunteer

Citizens for a Healthy Bay started as a small group of volunteers and relies on volunteers today to further our mission by cleaning up, protecting, and restoring Commencement Bay. CHB offers opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in real, make-a-difference activities. Opportunities to participate in ongoing restoration of local habitat include planting native plants, removing invasive weeds, and picking up trash around the Bay. These activities take place at various times throughout the year. The Storm Drain Marking Program is held throughout the drier months of the summer and is an excellent way for groups and families to become active in their community. For those who wish for an even greater investment in protecting Commencement Bay we offer the Adopt-A-Wildlife Area (AAWA) Habitat Stewardship Program. Citizens are trained to become habitat site stewards who go to one of several restoration sites to be our eyes and help with monthly monitoring of a site’s health and stability. There is enough variety that no matter your time, commitment level, or age we can most likely accommodate you and your interests.

Ongoing opportunities for citizen stewardship of Commencement Bay include our Adopt-A-Wildlife Area Program and our Citizen Steward Program, as well as many office, advocacy, and policy opportunities.
